Infiltration

Infiltration wicks molten copper into a sintered iron skeleton, boosting density, strength and machinability. Huaxiao delivers infiltration as part of our ISO 9001:2015 certified Powder Metallurgy capabilities — from rapid prototyping to high-volume production, with full dimensional inspection and material certification on every order.

Infiltration - precision powder metallurgy infiltration by Huaxiao, ISO 9001:2015 certified metal manufacturing

What Is Infiltration?

Infiltration compacts metal powder in a die and sinters it to bond the particles, forming complex, near-net shapes in one press stroke. Huaxiao’s Infiltration is ideal for high-volume, tight-tolerance components.

Because the die defines the geometry, features like teeth, hubs and oil grooves are formed directly — with almost no scrap. We add sizing, coining and secondary machining to hit final specs.

Our Infiltration Capabilities

Backed by 15+ years of precision manufacturing experience and a vertically integrated workshop:

Complex Near-Net Shapes
Our Infiltration forms intricate geometries in a single compacting step.
Self-Lubricating Options
Porous structures can be impregnated for maintenance-free bearing performance.
High-Volume Economy
Tooling amortizes quickly, making PM ideal for large production runs.
Secondary Ops Included
Sizing, coining, heat treatment and machining available in one flow.

How Infiltration Works

From drawing to finished part, our Infiltration process follows four controlled steps:

1
Powder Blending
Metal powders are mixed with lubricant and additives for flow and properties.
2
Compaction
A press forces the powder into the die at high pressure, forming the green part.
3
Sintering
The part is heated below melting, bonding particles and setting density.
4
Sizing & Finish
Coining or sizing reaches final tolerance; heat treatment or impregnation follows.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does PM compare to CNC in cost?
A: Above 5,000 pieces/year, PM typically cuts cost 30-70% versus CNC machining.
Q: What are the limitations?
A: Best under 150mm diameter and 10kg; thin walls under 1.5mm can be challenging.
Q: Can PM parts be heat treated?
A: Yes — quench, case-harden or steam-treat to HRC 45.
