Waterjet Cutting Services: No Heat, No Limits on Thickness
Waterjet cutting slices metal with a thin, ultra-high-pressure stream of water (often with abrasive garnet)—no heat, no distortion, and almost no limit on thickness. For heat-sensitive alloys and thick plate, it is the cleanest cutting method available. This guide covers how it works, where it beats laser and plasma, and how to brief a shop.

How Waterjet Works
A pump drives water to 60,000+ psi through a sapphire or diamond nozzle; abrasive is introduced to erode the material. Because there is no heat, there is no heat-affected zone (HAZ), no warping, and no hardened edge to machine away. It complements our laser cutting and plasma cutting lines.
No Heat-Affected Zone
Heat from laser or plasma can harden edges and stress thin parts. Waterjet leaves a cold, clean edge—ideal for hardened steels, titanium, and parts that must hold tolerance straight off the table. CNC punching is the volume play for formed features.
vs. Laser and Plasma
Laser is faster and cheaper on thin sheet with finer edges. Plasma is the economical choice on thick, less precise plate. Waterjet wins on very thick stock and heat-sensitive materials where edge quality matters.

Materials and Thickness
Waterjet cuts steel, stainless, aluminum, titanium, copper, stone, and composites—from foil to several-inch plate. Our sheet metal team integrates cut blanks into bending and welding.
Tolerances
Typical ±0.1–0.25 mm, tighter with slower passes and CNC control. Edge taper is small and predictable; deburring is minimal because edges are already clean.
FAQ
When should I choose waterjet?
Thick plate, heat-sensitive alloys, or when no HAZ is required.
Is it slower than laser?
On thin sheet, yes; on thick stock, it is competitive or faster.
What about burrs?
Edges are clean; little to no deburring needed.
